Aware of new initiative by MIT .

MIT will provide undergraduate certificates online at nominal costs.
MIT will us the name MITx for it in order to pğrotect existing students paying $ 4000 per course .
Beauty of it is
Everybody ( yes everybody , janitor, taxi drivers, high school students, university students, or graduates, )
can access the courses and learn.
Whenever they feel they mastered the course
they apply for certification at a nominal cost .
I hope if someone takes certain courses he will get a certification of the subject matter such as accounting, marketingi , medical help, etc .
Let us support the idea .

I am the most online dedicated person in the world for the last 15 years .
But as usual greedy capitalists made the name of online a negative one . That very famous university making $ 1 billion profits, it is a shame .
ONLINE is salvation of education from cradle to grave in all over the world.
Next year Singapor K12 goes 100 % online in all schools. They are number 2 or 3 while USA is number 22 or so at PISA TESTS . 2003-2006-2009 3 times in a row .

But my complains are :

1.- Even state univerwsities like PennState charge the same tuition for online courses as for f2f courses. But we know that cost of online is only 1/10 of the f2f courses. It has to be changed.
2.- In general all online courses available in schools in USA are not good quality. School doesn not spend enough money for the development of the course. What can be done . Some kind of online quality accreditation is needed .
3.- There are most beautiful online courses free provided by www.academicearth.org
providing online courses from MIT, Harvrard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Berkeley at the highest quality, bu colleges in the USA do not make use of them but Singapor, Korea China do . Shame .

If we are not smart enough some smart ones will win .

Cost is definitely an issue for all students of higher education. The differences between public schools and private ones...online or offline. Thankfully, students have a lot of choices when it comes to selecting a school / degree program.

Maybe at the surface level...institutional policies have a lot more influence on social class. Twitter allows for less hierarchical-based conversations, but social class is much larger in scope than convos on Twitter.

I would add cost effectiveness. You can earn your degree through online education at a small fraction of the fees paid by students studying in a brick and mortar campus.

A journey to affordable tuition is a good quest --and the new quest of the future -but how, you might ask? By signing this, my petition: http://wh.gov/jU8 -- But will my petition actually work? For example, THIS other petition (not mine) is an 'expired' petition: https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions#!/petition/promote-enforce-teaching-evolution-over-creationism/H4HkDs0B It was created Sept 24, 2011, well over a month ago, but since it reached over 150 siggy's it is imortalised and still listed on The Whitehouse website -- So, what's the point?

THIS other petition that did NOT get 150 signatures in 30 days was deleted: http://wh.gov/24m -- it simply said that her petition was expired -- Who KNOWS what it was?

So, what's the bottom line?

ANSWER: If my petition, http://wh.gov/jU8 can get 150 signatures before the month elapses, then TWO things happens:

#1 -- Of course, it can become searchable in the database, so when someone puts in a key word like 'education' or 'college' or 'economy' or 'budget,' my petition pops up & getting signatures is not so much of a pain (where I beg, plead, and finagle my friends here to sign) -- but here's the main thing you need to know:

#2 -- My petition will become immortal -- much like the Evolution/Creation petition above -- even AFTER it 'expires,' it will *remain* on the Whitehouse website AND (get this!) still be eligible to receive signatures --just not 'official' where the Whitehouse *has* to respond --so, unless you can think of a better use of your time right now, then stop complaining, stop moaning, and stop groaning ,and SIGN MY PETETION TO OBAMA: http://wh.gov/jU8

Conservatives such as myself, are incensed with the obscenely high tax placed on students (tuition is legally a tax, as it flows to the government, State Universities in most cases)

Furthermore, Conservatives, such as myself, are peeved that the Government interference in the Free Market by insertion of Federally made or guaranteed student loans, which "bid up" the costs of college, since corrupt liberals in Higher Ed know that students with loans can borrow more.

Liberals are *also* on our side, as they don't like being stepped on by 'The Man'

Note: I'm conservative, so I'm not asking for 100%-total forgiveness of student debt (e.g I don't wanna free handout) --but just basic things like standard consumer protections for student debt that even credit card users have.
Please sign my petition on The Whitehouse website so I can get the 150 signatures in time to save it:

THIS other petition that did NOT get 150 signatures in 30 days was deleted: http://wh.gov/24m — it simply said that her petition was expired — Who KNOWS what it was?

So, what’s the bottom line?

ANSWER: If my petition, http://wh.gov/jU8 can get 150 signatures before the month elapses, then TWO things happens:

#1 — Of course, it can become searchable in the database, so when someone puts in a key word like ‘education’ or ‘college’ or ‘economy’ or ‘budget,’ my petition pops up & getting signatures is not so much of a pain (where I beg, plead, and finagle my friends here to sign) — but here’s the main thing you need to know:

#2 — My petition will become immortal — much like the Evolution/Creation petition above — even AFTER it ‘expires,’ it will *remain* on the Whitehouse website AND (get this!) still be eligible to receive signatures –just not ‘official’ where the Whitehouse *has* to respond –so, unless you can think of a better use of your time right now, then stop complaining, stop moaning, and stop groaning ,and SIGN MY PETETION TO OBAMA: http://wh.gov/jU8

Conservatives such as myself, are incensed with the obscenely high tax placed on students (tuition is legally a tax, as it flows to the government, State Universities in most cases)

Furthermore, Conservatives, such as myself, are peeved that the Government interference in the Free Market by insertion of Federally made or guaranteed student loans, which “bid up” the costs of college, since corrupt liberals in Higher Ed know that students with loans can borrow more.

Liberals are *also* on our side, as they don’t like being stepped on by ‘The Man’

Note: I’m conservative, so I’m not asking for 100%-total forgiveness of student debt (e.g I don’t wanna free handout) –but just basic things like standard consumer protections for student debt that even credit card users have.
Please sign my petition on The Whitehouse website so I can get the 150 signatures in time to save it:

Great post Eric and very much needed. I've done a number of talks now with both academics and students on getting the best from LinkedIn. Many were unaware of the additional features available within LinkedIn to help promote your personal online professional presence. http://www.slideshare.net/suebeckingham/getting-the-best-from-linkedin
